Welcome to my page, Journey to Health; a page where I will document my journey back to health.

I don't believe that anyone on here knew me when I was a teenager, and therefore I will fill you in. I was in very good shape as a teenager, through semi good eating and plenty of exercise. Over the last couple of years (ages 22-25) I have let those times slip further and further away. This is through my own lack of effort, and nothing else. I weighed myself today (July 12th) and the scales said 178lbs, that is 178lbs for a man of about 5'8. That is overweight, which got me to thinking about getting back in shape. However that was not enough for me, I wanted to get back into shape, yes. I also wanted to do it making a point, I want to highlight the potential of the human body, to show how we are blessed with something capable of miraculous things.

Now, I shall fill you in on how this Wiki is to operate.

1. I shall post pictures of myself (non-naked) every few days, which will provide visuals of my progress. The pictures will come with a short 'diary' entry, describing what I have done that day and my feelings about the project in general.

2. My wife and I have discussed this, she is completely comfortable with these pictures and so am I. However I feel compelled to state this anyway, these pictures are not soft core porn and childish comments are really counter productive to what I am trying to create.

3. Comments are welcome, I am aware of the bad state of my body in the first picture, and observations will not hurt my feelings. I am doing this for two reasons (1) to better my health and (2) to set an example to anyone who has had issues with weight loss and has felt that it will never get better.

I can better my health, you can better your health, we can all do it. Please join me in my journey and never lose faith.

Peace, love and empathy.
Scott Robinson.

Day 1

<img150*0:http://elftown.eu/img/photo/150384_1215915251.jpg><img150*0:http://elftown.eu/img/photo/150384_1215915233.jpg>

So, this is day 1 (July 12th, 2008) and you can see that I am a run of the mill gentleman, somewhat overweight, flabby in the wrong areas and in possession of a few curves.

My weight is 178lbs.

I went to the gym today, cycled for a few miles, ran for a mile, worked with some weights and finished up with a swim and then relaxed my muscles in a hot tub. This is day 1, so I am feeling fine about the effort, and suffering no problems of complaints.

The journey continues tomorrow,
Keep moving forward,
Scott.

Days 2-10
Days 11-20
Days 21-30

Day 33

So, my updates have become a slightly more sketchy, on a regular basis and this will probably continue. With the lack of the laptop and my progress only needing an update every few days I have decided every 2-4 days is sufficient. Today was a very good work out evening, where I did 10 miles on the cycle (with my wife, of course). I then did the weights and then sauna/swim.

A couple of notes.

My bicep weight curling has went up 20lbs in these 33 days.
My chest pressing has went up about 40lbs.
My stamina to do this has improved all round.
I am attempting to tone my body, and is a work in progress.
The sauna has been introduced as a means to supplement the cardio.

I do hope the changes and shake up of routines help to keep my body guessing and aide it in improving.

Side note- My wife is still making progress, and this is a great source of pride for me. She is a second example that our bodies work with us when we give them reason. ^_^

Question for anyone reading....What do you consider 'physical health'?

Keep moving forward.
Scott.

2008-07-23 [Maeve104]: Haha. I know what you mean about the routine thing. I play ultimate frisbee after work with some friends usually, and today it was storming so I didn't go. It felt odd being home so early. O_o

2008-07-23 [xenocentric]: Yep, being at home instead of working out would feel rather odd to me now. Tonight I am home, eating and then going to the gym and it really does feel slightly strange.

2008-07-24 [Azuri]: Heh well if you add muscle on or replace your fat with muscle you will indeed weight more in the end than when you began. Lots of people don't understand that muscle weights more than fat does and get frustrated when they start putting on the lbs. Just be careful to loose the fat at the same time(or before) your putting on the muscle or you will look realllly funny. My friend Dustin was doing that for awhile until he realized and fixed his workout routine.

On the midsection, no matter how old you are it will always be the last place you drop weight from. Theres a sort of net that holds the fat in place and its uber hard to make it let go, I know that's not the technical version of it but its the basic. I would suggest getting with a trainer at the gym and see what they say would be best for you to drop specifically that weight. The gym we are joining has a program specifically for it and your but (its named Butts n Guts XD) that I plan to join because I have that issue too.

2008-07-24 [xenocentric]: Yeah, I have made sure to drop the weight first (hence the rather speedy loss of weight in 10 days). I used to be a really good shape and I really do know the dynamics and routines, but it is still frustrating. I guess the most frustrating part is that it takes a little longer now I am slightly older (BooHiss).

If I remember my body I will probably drop to the low 160's before the excess fat is gone, and then I will step up the muscle work once again.

Thanks for the kind words and advice.

^_^

2008-07-24 [Azuri]: Ah yes, the body does become slightly more frustrating as you age *shakes fist*

2008-07-24 [Teufelsweib]: and the worst thing is that when you lose weight, at a certain point it seems to stop. then you're still working out as much, but you won't lose any... or that after a while you somehow start gaining weight again O_o
mostly because your body gets used to the excersize...

2008-07-24 [Azuri]: Well yea, you'll hit a plateau and to beat it you have to switch up your exercise. My husband is trying to gain some muscle weight and has two different routines that he does and switches them every 2 weeks so he doesn't have to deal with the plateau that most people hit losing or gaining weight.

So when you hit the plateau, switch it up or make the exercise go longer than you used to. Say you used to walk for 25 mins make it 30 instead.

2008-07-24 [Galatea]: They also say when you hit that plateau changing your calorie intact can help too...sometimes you may need to eat more (or less) to start burning fat again.

2008-07-24 [Azuri]: Yup.

2008-07-25 [Galatea]: Is it just me or has anyone else been having problems with their wikis today? I couldn't add a file to my art wiki, every time I clicked edit it would go back to the way it was. Anyone have any ideas?

2008-07-25 [Azuri]: Everyone is

2008-07-25 [Khronos Atmosphaera]: YAY! Keep up the good work you two!

2008-07-26 [xenocentric]: Thank you, Tenshi. It is getting easier and my wife really ran her ass off the other night, she just would not let up and I had to work myself hard to keep up with our agreed running schedule ^_^

2008-07-26 [Khronos Atmosphaera]: Whoo! Go Teatea! >3!

2008-07-27 [End of Eternity]: Wow! You can see already the effects all this exercise is having - I jsut compared your first photo to your latest - great work! Keep it up!

2008-07-28 [xenocentric]: Thank you, I have been making sure to work out each day and eat well. It is amazing how the body will work with us when we do that. ^_^

2008-07-29 [XxTsomexX]: You have inspired me to get healthy as well! ^^

2008-07-29 [Rainbow Dragonflies]: Most likely your on-off weight is water weight ;] if you keep a constant intake of water it should keep slightly steady, and if you already do, then your scale just might be crazy.

2008-07-30 [xenocentric]: Tsome- I am so happy that you have found inspiration from this wiki. Bettering ones health is something everyone can do, as long as we make a realistic dedication. Knowing I have offered inspiration keeps me going on those days where it feels somewhat more difficult than usual.

Rainbow- It probably is water weight, and on the day when my weigh was up I had just returned from a weekend of eating heavier than the previous two weeks. It was probably a combination of those two factors, or an insane scale. My weight has been between 166-169 for about 5 days or so now.

2008-07-30 [XxTsomexX]: Yeah, I have been trying to go to the gym at least every other day now... and I already ate healthy before XD

2008-07-31 [xenocentric]: Congratulations, long may you find success in your routine.
